For those who’ve read my bio, or been with me any amount of time, you know that my other “job” is co-owning two tattoo studios, and being a tattooist. Surprise! I also paint, too. That guy up there, is one of my more recent pieces. He makes me happy, and brings a smile to my face. Someday soon, he will hang in his new home, and do the same for another.
In a strange way, makeup, tattoos, and painting all go hand in hand, in my head. They are all using a medium to create, or enhance, beauty. They all let you live in another world for awhile, where it is only you, and the color palette laid out for you to create from.
Much as with makeup, paintings can be simple, or complex. They can be dramatic, or fun and playful. It all depends on my mood. Right now, I’m in the fun and playful period. I want color, I want to create something from chaos. Part structured, part insanity.
In many ways, I approach my makeup in the same way. Some days, I want more than the basics. I want pops of color, that most wouldn’t dare to use. I want to show the world that I am me, and I am the only one I have to please, when I look in the mirror. I am a rebel at heart, and I want the world to see it!
I am one of those few, lucky people, who have not only creative outlets, but outlets that let me earn a living. When I need a break from one, I have the others to make sure a roof remains over my head, my children are clothed, and have food in their bellies.
What is your passion, or passions? Is it written word? Sketches on paper? Or a vanity, lined with bottles, and jars, and containers full of wonderful things that will let you be whoever you want, even if only for a few hours? Something else? Maybe a combo of one or four things?
Whatever it is, let me give you a piece of advice: grab that passion, and turn it into what you do to make your living. You’ll be amazed at how much better life will get for you!
